How we started.

Two community college professors, who were also board members of the National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs (NACCTEP), realized the great work and advocacy NACCTEP conducted across our nation in bolstering community college teacher education as well as providing a significant voice at the federal level. Through active engagement with NACCTEP, Lisa Hill and Fay Lee realized that Texas needed such an organization to create cohesion with Texas community college teacher educators and support transfer students to university Educator Preparation Programs.

Fay sought advice from community college teacher educators in Michigan and California on how to begin our advocacy group, while Lisa Hill contacted executive board members of the Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education (CSOTTE). With these combined efforts and consultation from Kim Tobey, Executive Director of NACCTEP, and Dr. Edward Leach, Executive Director of NISOD, TACCTEP was established in the summer of 2017.

The first board members of TACCTEP were gathered with the help of Dr. Doug Hamman, Department Chair of Teacher Education at Texas Tech University and Director of  the 2+1 TechTeach Across Texas program.

Since its establishment, TACCTEP has also become a member organization of CSOTTE, where the TACCTEP President and Vice-President serve. TACCTEP has been active in the presentations as well as representation across the state and state organizations.

As teacher education and certification licensure experience changes, community college teacher education programs must follow these changes in order to provide our students a seamless transition to their university EPP.
